Aon Maadi Regatta

The Aon Maadi Regatta is the National Championships for school rowing in New Zealand.

The regatta was previously known as the Maadi Cup which is actually the prize given to the winners of the boys U18 eight event.

Run by the NZSSRA and Rowing New Zealand, the regatta is one of the largest secondary school sports events in the Southern Hemisphere and is held alternatively at Lake Karāpiro, near Cambridge, and Lake Ruataniwha, near Twizel and regularly attracts 10,000-15,000 people on the two finals days.

Age group categories are raced from U15-U18 in both male and female classes in a variety of boat types from singles to eights.

The 2024 New Zealand Secondary School Championships (Aon Maadi Regatta) will be held at Lake Ruantaniwha from 18-23 March 2024 (Sunday 24 March is the spare day).

South Island Rowing are the hosts of the regatta at Lake Ruataniwha.
