NZ Coastal Beach Sprint Team Takes on America
The New Zealand Coastal Beach Sprint team travelled to the United States for a valuable international campaign, combining a visit to the LA 2028 Olympic Beach Sprint venue with competition at the Boston Beach Sprint Regatta.
Racing against some of the world's best coastal rowers, the Kiwis went head-to-head with top American crews, including three-time World Champion Chris Bak.
The tour provided a unique opportunity to test themselves against world-class competition while gaining valuable experience on the road to LA 2028.

For years, Andrew 'Herb' Stevenson balanced life as an orchardist and member of some of New Zealand rowing’s greatest crews. He grew up in the tiny Otago town of Ettrick, chased excellence on the water with Waikato and went on to win two world championships in the Men's Eight. Beach Sprint Camp Fundamentals
Emma Twigg, Matt Dunham, and David Vallance, took to the beach to give a fundamentals camp to get everyone ready for the 2026 Rowing NZ Beach Sprint Championships. Things might not have gone Finn Hamill’s way at the World Beach Sprint Finals over the weekend, but what a year he has had - picking up four medals, two gold at NZ Rowing Championships, claiming medals in the double at the World Cups, being named the Giant Slayer after a remarkable performance that saw him defeat reigning Olympic Champion Oliver Ziedler and Simon Van Drop at Henley and then winning the Henley double with Ben Mason. For many school rowers, the Maadi Regatta sometimes feels like the Olympics. Two thousand rowers from more than 150 schools competing for a spot in a heat, semi-final, repechage and if you’re lucky, an A Final. Watching the action this year, some current and past top New Zealand rowers. Finn Hamill, world champion in the coastal men's solo, and Matt Dunham, 2023 mixed double beach sprint champion, successfully completed a gruelling, 45km journey around Hong Kong Island.
