World Rowing Cup 2 - Day 4

  • 20 Jun 22

Temperatures soared on the fourth and final day of the 2022 World Rowing Cup 2 in Poznan, Poland, and the New Zealand Rowing Team had another great day to round off the regatta.

Charlotte Spence was first up for the Kiwis racing in the B final of the women's single scull. Charlotte held her own in a strong field of scullers, crossing the line in fifth place.

The men's and women's quads both contested their B finals. The women's quad of Stella Clayton-Greene, Georgia Nugent-O'Leary, Kristen Froude and Kate Haines built on their performances earlier in the week and pulled out a solid performance in the third 500m of their race. The Kiwis finished in second place behind Poland. The men's quad raced directly after the women and fought hard in their B final. The crew of Jordan Parry, Brook Robertson, Phillip Wilson and Jack O'Leary finished in fifth place.

Tom Mackintosh and Matt Macdonald raced in New Zealand's first A final of the day. The men's pair were determined to show their class and that is exactly what they did. The crew blasted out of the start rating 43 and set a hot pace for the rest of the field, cruising away from their competitors from 500m in. The kiwis crossed the line in first place - 5 seconds clear of the Netherlands in second, and USA in third.

New Zealand's final race of the day was the women's four of Phoebe Spoors, Beth Ross, Davina Waddy and Catherine Layburn. The new crew put forward a great performance against an incredibly tight field, where five seconds separated the top five crews. The Kiwis finished in 5th place, just 0.06 seconds behind the USA in 4th.

That concludes racing at the 2022 World Rowing Cup 2 in Poznan, Poland. For more information on the regatta and full race results visit the World Rowing website
