2022 Rocket Foods New Zealand Rowing Championships Format

  • 28 Oct 21

In December 2020 a Special General Meeting was held by the NZRA where all 11 Local Associations voted in favour of the proposed changes to the 2021 Rocket Foods New Zealand Rowing Championships. The changes were designed to make the event more enjoyable and attract more competitors and spectators. In February 2021, a condensed national championship regatta meant that some, but not all, of these changes were able to be implemented.

Over the past eight months a sub-committee of the Domestic Committee, lead by Mathew Jensen, have run a consultation process in order to gain feedback on the changes and their implementation at the 2021 regatta. The Domestic Committee (which contains a representative from each Association) was consulted extensively on the proposed changes, and Local Associations and Clubs were consulted with directly where necessary. KRI as regatta hosts and Rowing NZ Management were also consulted on these changes. The feedback that we received from this consultation has helped guide the modifications made to the original proposal and has resulted in the 2022 Rocket Foods New Zealand Rowing Championships Format - see document attached below.

The main points of change are listed below with further information provided in the document mentioned above.

  • Block format
  • Premier events (including the draft system)
  • Showcase events
  • Straight finals
  • Social functions

A massive thank you to Mat Jensen and the sub-committee who facilitated this process. Your commitment to this entire proposal is appreciated beyond words. We look forward to seeing these changes in action at the 2022 Rocket Foods New Zealand Rowing Championships in February.
