Winter Pathway Announcement

  • 29 Apr 24

Rowing NZ is please to announce the 2024 Winter Pathway list. The RNZ Pathway is updated twice a year and reflects athletes who have meet the Pathway standards over the previous summer (April list) or winter (October list) seasons. Athletes who are on the RNZ Pathway are currently grouped into three levels – Performance, Development, and Identification. The Performance level athletes are those that are currently part of the NZ U23 team and wider squad training at Lake Karapiro and those training in the Waikato Winter Performance Hub. The Development level athletes are those athletes who have been selected into the RNZ U21 and U19 teams for 2024. The Identification level athletes are those athletes that have met both an on-water standard through the summer racing season and an off-water (5km or 2km erg) standard during this period (Selection Information).

The Development and Identification level athletes can train from one of our Winter Hubs between April and September this year, our hubs are based in Auckland, Cambridge, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. The main purpose of the Development Winter Hubs is to provide training opportunities both on the water and off the water for all our Pathway athletes who are training regionally for age group based campaigns. As well as providing athletes with the opportunity to train leading into both the Winter Performance Regatta in July (for those who are wanting to gain selection into the RNZ Summer Squad or Summer Performance Hubs) and the Interprovincial Regattas in September.
