2024 Nationals Premier Draft

  • Nominations for the Premier 4x- and Premier 8+ Nationals Draft open at 5pm on Monday 29 January.
  • Nominations close at 5pm on Wednesday 7 February.
  • Eligible rowers need to be Senior grade and above.
  • Non-resident competitors are only eligible if they satisfy the criteria set out in Rule 16 of the 2023 NZRA Rules of Racing.
  • Summer Squad members will only be eligible for the Draft and not for club crews.
  • Six Premier 4x- and three Premier 8+ crews are to be selected by the Team Captains.
  • The first six rowers across the line in the Premier 1x heats that have nominated for the Draft will be Team Captains for the Premier 4x- Draft crews. i.e. if there is one heat, top six, if two heats then three from each etc.
  • The first three rowers across the line in the Premier 2- heats that have nominated for the Draft will be Team Captains for the Premier 8+ Draft crews.
  • If athletes have nominated for the Draft, they must be Team Captains.  If they choose to drop out from the Draft, they cannot be selected by other Captains and the next fastest becomes a Team Captain.
  • Crew selection occurs on Tuesday 13 February in a selection meeting with the Team Captains.  The 8+ crew selection meeting will be held at 5:30pm and the 4x- selection meeting will be held at 6:15pm.  These meetings will be held in the Rowing NZ Boardroom.
  • The Team Captains will be provided a list of all the Draft entrants with the information they have provided on the entry form.
  • The Team Captains will select nominated athletes one at a time in the order of 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 1 etc.  This will alternate between men and women to cover coxswain selection.
  • The Draft announcement will be held in the Karāpiro Room, Sir Don Rowlands Centre, Lake Karāpiro at 6pm on Wednesday 14 February.
  • If a rower withdraws from a Draft crew after they have been selected, that person must inform Kate from Rowing New Zealand in the first instance, who in turn will inform the team captain and work with that Captain to select a suitable replacement.
