CE position announcement

  • 26 Apr 23

The Rowing NZ board would like to provide an update on the latest developments of the appointment of the Rowing NZ CE.

The board engaged a recruitment agency to work with them on the appointment of the CE. As part of the recruitment process an option was explored for David Meates to remain in the interim CE position for an extended period.

The board is now able to announce that David has agreed to continue in the role until the end of the Paris Olympic cycle. Extending his contract until the end of August 2024.

There were some key factors that contributed to this decision.

Rowing NZ is facing a period of significant change and at this critical time with a short lead in time for the Paris Olympics the organisation needs to be focused on delivery without being distracted with any uncertainty.

Given many of the staff and athletes will be overseas for extended periods in 2023 and 2024, the board considered stability of direction and leadership would be vitally important during this time and the interim CE can provide that.

The board intends to recruit a permanent CE during the second quarter of 2024. Once a new CE is appointed, David will be available to ensure that there is a smooth transition for the incoming permanent CE.

The board is confident that David will continue to provide the stability and support for staff and athletes. They would like to thank staff, athletes, partners, donors, and the wider rowing community for their continued patience and support.
