St Paul’s Collegiate School is a leading independent school situated in Hamilton that has a well-rounded sporting culture and a drive for High-Performance sporting success. The St Paul’s Rowing Club has a team of more than 80 rowers and coxswains who train at a privately owned boat shed on the Waikato River. All equipment is up-to-date with a fleet of boats covering all boat classes, with a comprehensive plant and asset purchase plan.

We are seeking to appoint a Director of Rowing who will lead our school's rowing programme on and off the water from the start of the 2024 / 2025 rowing season. St Paul’s Rowing Club is in a positive growth phase, and the school is incredibly proud of the current culture, engagement and success of its programme.

We are looking for an inspiring leader who has experience and knowledge of coaching rowing and working with young people. Leading a team of experienced and successful Coaches, together you will motivate and bring the best out of our rowers by demonstrating high standards in commitment, attitude, presentation and enthusiasm towards the rowing programme.

Pleasingly, the current Director of Rowing has taken on additional portfolios within our school and wishes to continue to provide expertise, remaining in the newly created role of Rowing Manager to support the transition of the new Director. In addition, the Rowing Club is supported by an active and motivated committee and an experienced team of 8 coaches.

The Director of Rowing is the important link between the St Paul’s Rowing Club Committee and the school. We are looking for someone who is collaborative, well-organised, able to operate at a strategic and operational level and has the ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with a number of different stakeholders.

Our ideal candidate will either be a fully registered teacher who is passionate about rowing and has substantial experience in this space, or someone who is an exceptional leader who has proven experience in coaching and leading rowing at a school or representative level.

For teachers, this is a full-time opportunity with a reduced teaching load (to be negotiated), or for non-teachers, this is a year-round salaried opportunity (hours to be negotiated). There may also be an opportunity depending on your skillset, to find additional employment with the school in the off-season.

Working at St Paul’s you will be joining a supportive and collegial group of professionals. Staff are appreciated and valued for their hard work. Along with a competitive remuneration package, other benefits include daily cooked lunches, flexible hours and access to excellent facilities.

The start date is negotiable, but ideally, the successful candidate will be ready to commence from August 2024.

Alongside this role, we are also looking to appoint a Head Rowing Coach, leading the technical coaching direction and skill development of rowers and our coaching team, as well as being responsible for coaching one or more of our Rowing Squads. Applications for this role may be considered both separately to the Director position or in conjunction.

An application pack with more information about the role and our school and club can be obtained by contacting Kathryn Conaghan, Head of HR via email: work@stpauls.school.nz.

Applications will remain open until the position is filled and reviewed as received. Applications should be sent to work@stpauls.school.nz
